Katie Marie and Jordan’s greenhouse engagement session in Muncie, Indiana still reigns as one of my favorite shoots over the last few years. They rocked this session and I haven’t forgotten a couple years later. How can I? Through their engagement and wedding, we found so much connection that we’ve since become friends. While I don’t expect all my clients to become my besties, it is a very cool experience getting to know people through such a pivotal time in their lives. So, I revisited this session with some re-edits and put a new spin on an old favorite!
I love the way they genuinely interacted through the session. Locking eyes, or actually telling each other something meaningful through my prompts. Everyone has a different vibe to their session because, hey, we’re all different. And these guys are just genuinely passionate about each other. It shows.
I also can’t help but love the aesthetic of this shoot. Plants frame them in every photo. And, their outfits not only complement each other, but the space. Oh, and those floral crowns? Katie Marie made them herself. (You’ll see the second one later in the gallery.) Also having an art background, to say she’s crafty is an understatement. She’s taught art for years and is a practicing artist.
Rinard Orchid Greenhouse will always hold a special place for me. It was where I really dove into photography before starting professionally. Justin and I still lived near our alma mater, Ball State, when began doing macro photography. I would take pictures of all the plants, gradually learning how to really use my camera. Before, I had been a long-time hobbyist and yearbook nerd. I was only shooting on auto until I took a film photography class in college. Having the opportunity to shoot an engagement here felt like things had somewhat come full circle. This was also the first shoot I ever got published. So now, the greenhouse holds even more significance.
Revisiting Katie Marie and Jordan’s engagement session was such a fun little project with this extra down time (oh hey Covid-19). It was great to just give them a little gift for all of their encouragement through the years and seeing how much my editing has progressed since. Although, I’ll admit it’s kind of crazy looking back and thinking this is the first time I hung out with them both! Keep scrolling for more, including one of the sweetest moments – including where they told each other why they were excited and ready to marry each other (just before we went outside the greenhouse). Ughh I love these two!
