I loved getting the chance to create this styled wedding shoot for The Loft on Isanogel in Muncie, Indiana. I got to build a dream team of vendors and come up with something totally unique. The initial concepts were inspired by the venue and a warm, earthy color palette. I envisioned something that could carry across seasons, appeal to the guest experience, and feel earthy but modern at the same time. I pictured wild florals paired with clean lines. Working closely with Lauren Brown, the floral designer behind Woven Blooms, I think we came up with a really beautiful twist on the traditional barn wedding. She was a co-designer and stylist for the shoot.
The title “Notes of Gold” plays not only on the golden hues in our designs, but the “guest experience” we created with a beer tasting and feast. We were inspired by rustic food styling and featured multiple charcuterie boards to pair with a beer tasting provided by The Guardian Brewing Co. in Muncie. Instead of a traditional cake, our vegan baker, Sea Salt and Cinnamon made an amazing pavlova and assortment of macaroons. They were light and refreshing paired with the heavier soft pretzels (also vegan) and beer. To add to the “guest experience,” our invitation artist, Relics of Mona created beer journals to jot down notes for each of the three beers provided. She also drew a custom illustration of a couple in a beer garden as part of the invitation suite. I loved how everything tied together!
When it came to styling the couple, we went for a mix of casual and elegance. The dress Luxe Redux provided for our model, Meredith, was exactly what we need with its intricate art deco style beading and flowy skirt. The fan leaf design on the bodice paralleled the fan leaves we had sprinkled throughout the shoot. The detailing feels modern but boho at the same time. With Blade’s attire, Men’s Wearhouse provided the perfect burgundy suit with touches of our color scheme throughout the accessories.
Michelle and Erin, were a great hair and makeup team. Michelle said for our model Meredith’s makeup, she pulled a neutral palette from our florals and went for a glowy, light look. Erin then created a modern textured twist with fishtail detail. The combination gives Meredith a natural glam look.
Going for something more out of the ordinary than a boutonniere, Lauren came up with this cool floral bowtie for Meredith’s husband, Blade.
Lauren’s floral designs carried our color palette and composed our ceremony and reception setups. Explaining her thoughts on the overall design, Lauren said, “After we decided on a color scheme, I knew I wanted subtle color transitions and interesting textures. Mixing fluffy garden roses and double tulips with smooth anthuriums and spire-like delphiniums helped create the dynamic arrangements. I used the dried palm fans to play off of the beading pattern on the bodice of the dress.” I love what she created because it was wild but soft at the same time. I think it combined rustic and contemporary design beautifully. But also, I loved that she was able to make pieces that could be in *both* the ceremony and reception setups.
Our couple, Meredith and Blade were actually married at The Loft on Isanogel’s sister venue, The Lodge at River Valley Farm. Working with these newlyweds was kind of effortless because they genuinely laughed together so much on their own. I’m so thankful we found them because they made the shoot fun for everyone.
Having Brie from Wandering Light Films alongside us for the day was an absolute blast. We worked together on flatlay designs and bounced ideas off of each other through the day for more natural moments for the couple in a staged setting. Brie put together this full shoot video you see below!
She even shot a behind the scenes video of me working!
