A little over a year ago, I was sitting across the table from Morgan and Drew having breakfast. We were getting ready for our hiking engagement session through Clifty Falls, and they told me their story. Missed connections, uncertainty, and timing all seemed against them until things perfectly matched up. I don’t just love their story, but I love their style! This is what it looks like when a graphic designer and an architect get married.
Their ceremony site, Caldwell chapel is beautiful inside and out. The interesting architecture, courtyard, and the surrounding grounds are unlike any church I’ve shot in. I loved the character of this wedding venue!
A few days before their wedding, Drew emailed me with a plan to surprise Morgan with flowers throughout the day, ending with an incredibly sentimental gift. He hand-carved a wooden box, made from wood on her dad’s property. Then, he inscribed it with their wedding vows and topped it with a sculpted rose. In the center, sat her custom wedding band. We won’t know what’s inside the box until their 10th anniversary. How thoughtful?!
It kind of goes without saying how beautiful this wedding was. The Louisville Water Tower Park is such a cool venue. The character of the building along with the view of the Ohio River through the windows makes for a really beautiful space. Morgan’s talent for design carried throughout the details. I really loved how the guest favor was a key piece of their tablescapes. I mean, who doesn’t love plants as gifts? They gave the room a really fresh and light feel.
Any wedding has its ups and downs. Literally. They had a dip go wrong and ended up on the ground. But, Morgan and Drew were so happy, they just laughed it off. I love their sense of humor and how they go with the flow!
After dinner, we snuck away for a private tour of the pump room. Drew’s company worked to restore the over 100 year old pump. It was a cool experience to be able to hear the power of the current pumps below us and to see what used to provide water to all of Louisville. Seeing how beautiful the WaterWorks Museum is lit up at night was just the cherry on top.
What an awesome party right? I love this couple and feel so fortunate to have worked with them. Morgan and Drew were incredibly thoughtful and fun from beginning to end!
