Kelsey and John’s backyard wedding was beautiful and packed with details for their guests. Food, music, and quality time with friends and family was definitely at the forefront. In turn, the couple was able to put a lot toward each person’s experience. A food truck with made to order food, a homemade cake for each guest, margarita popsicles… I mean, talk about great food choices alone!

I love working with all of my couples. But, this wedding was special to photograph for other reasons. Kelsey and I are old friends that grew up in the same community. I had a flood of memories from growing up together throughout the day. And it was awesome to be a part of her wedding as her photographer.

Kelsey and John’s rings were really unique and beautiful. You’ll notice Kelsey’s rose gold ring features skulls on either side to represent “til’ death.” John’s ring is made of a Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrel and inlaid elk antler. How cool is that?

I love backyard weddings.

I love how backyard weddings are inherently intimate and personal. And, the setting typically holds a lot of memories for the couple. With the wedding being held at Kelsey’s childhood home, the day felt all the more special. Her parents prepped their yard and house not just food for the event. All of their hard work really shows!

And, how gorgeous does Kelsey look! I love how this combination of the little orchard and Kelsey’s style give a timeless whimsical vibe. And, it’s good to note, Julie’s Flowers of Geist pulled through after Kelsey’s original florist suddenly retired, Julie created AWESOME arrangements with really beautiful pops of color.

The Food

This was easily one of my favorite details last year (and probably wins most delicious too.) Kelsey mentioned early on that her mom used to work in catering. I knew she would be helping make food for the event. I had no idea though she would do something this impressive! She made every single guest a cake. I’m not kidding. A homemade, perfectly iced cake. And… it was her husband that hosted the backyard wedding with the perfect setup. Seriously incredible. Dinner was provided by Taqueria Oaxaca Indy who did a fantastic job with their made to order menu. I’ve never been so well-fed at a wedding!

Clearly, the dance floor was pretty fun. To add to the night, Kelsey and John even had margarita popsicles for guests! I feel like they really showed love for everyone invited between such a great meal and awesome party. What an incredible day to be a part of!
